I speak on behalf of just myself and not the rest of the developer team here at ASMR Island.
ASMR Island runs three Google advertisements on all its pages. These ads when clicked, generate some income for me. I consider this a small incentive (but not the only incentive) for the hours and work I've dedicated to the project and the team. The purpose of this project is to provide an outlet for ASMR Whisper and relaxation artists to freely express themselves.
Most, if not all advertisement revenue is put back into the project to improve the visitor experience and to provide a better publishing platform for the hard working team. For example, you can see the big difference between ASMR Island and the older project, ASMR Radio. These changes were made possible by the generated advertisement revenue and donations.
According to Google analytics, I've been made aware that there are users who use Adblock, which is plugin software that removes advertisements in every website they visit. At first, I implemented a script which didn't allow Adblock users to enter the site unless they disabled Adblock.
I quickly came to the realization that implementing this script went against the grain of our Mission Statement - To Eliminate Barriers.
When it comes right down to it...
1) ASMR Island was not created to generate profits. It was created by the community and for the community.
2) Although this is my full-time venture, I have kindly asked many creative and aspiring individuals to volunteer their time to bring this project to life. They are (currently) not being paid for the tremendous effort they've been dedicating to this project. There are also many film makers who submit audio content for ASMR Radio free of charge. Ultimately, they're creating content for the community. Not for me. It would be wrong and unethical to capitalize monetarily on the free content provided by our volunteers, and ultimately the community.
3) It's non-sensible to annoy and shove advertisements down our visitor's throats. They are using Adblock for a reason: to block ads! Most ad revenue is generated through clicks anyhow. Logic says that people will not click what they are forced to see.
4) It goes against our Mission Statement. By refusing visitors that use the Adblock script, we only frustrate and harm the experience of our users.
So in conclusion, I am pleased to confirm that we will not be implementing a refusal script and placing a barrier between ASMR Island and Adblock users. However, to those users specifically, I would like to kindly request if you could either consider allowing our 3 non-obtrusive advertisements to be shown for this website (Click Adblock icon and "Don't run on pages on this domain") or possibly donating to the project so we can continue providing and upgrading these services for free.
Your continued love and support is greatly appreciated.
